Circle of Choices

If the past year were offered me again/and choice of good and ill before me set/would I accept the pleasure with the pain/or dare to wish that we had never met? ― Augusta Gregory offers an insight into the doubts we have to fight, choices that we have to make, every day in our daily lives. We keep on checking our decisions, our wrongdoing, actions, and reactions. We keep track of all, and continuously doubt ourselves in all waking hours. To err is such a common happenstance that it is quite natural to doubt our choices especially when such choices are made by rebelling against the world. "Why did I come here? I thought. Why is it always only a matter of choosing between something bad and something worse?" ― Charles Bukowski. Is choice an easy task? What a battle that goes in our heads when we are faced with tough choices. It rips our heads apart; constant fear and doubt eat our innards. Some say it's all fate, is it? If it's fate then what about the tussle that a person has to go through while raking the brain for something that's already decided. I find John Galsworthy's idea of life and fate "Life calls the tune, we dance" little contradictory.

Sometimes choices are just thrusted upon us like a gust of storm. We aren't prepared for it. We may never be able to prepare for it. But at one point in time, such days come when you have to sit and decide, act and react to situations beyond your control. We make choices, but how far they are correct, who knows. In such circumstances, you are just struggling with all the noise "How did I get into the world? Why was I not asked about it and why was I not informed of the rules and regulations but just thrust into the ranks as if I had been bought by a peddling shanghaier of human beings? How did I get involved in this big enterprise called actuality? Why should I be involved? Isn't it a matter of choice? And if I am compelled to be involved, where is the manager—I have something to say about this. Is there no manager? To whom shall I make my complaint?" ― Søren Kierkegaard. It drives us mad. The possibilities and probabilities are numerous. To be able to think of all, and then there's a voice in your head that will keep telling you - "Make your choice, adventurous Stranger/Strike the bell and bide the danger/or wonder, till it drives you mad/what would have followed if you had." ― C.S. Lewis, the Magician's Nephew. Making choice against the wishes of the people we love is again a battle of the highest order. The valour and courage required in such instances are beyond any measure. There are factions in our head that will keep on juggling back and forth. Deep inside it is nothing but a simmering pothole of confusion and nonsense blabber that grows into a lake of fire. Sylvia Plath's struggle within seems so relevant –"choice of being constantly active and happy or introspectively passive and sad. Or I can go mad by ricocheting in between."  It indeed is tough to make a choice, to assess all and arrive at a logical decision which is acceptable to ourselves. In the end, we have to live with our choices.

When everyday tripping like a battlefield
When you’re up against your own shield
Armour’s full of dust and holes
Turn into Achilles’ heel
Running in the dark from pole to pole
Devoid of life a dying soul
Sayings numb you around
Own clan is pushing you down
Folks keen on pulling you apart
Judging top and down from afar
All ears have gone deaf and eyes blind
Love in life leaves you in a bind
Screaming voice full of craze and sound
How fast does that heart pound
Home when turns into a battleground
You are bound to lose if you win
And the other way around.

Become Like Water

Changes are like water, they drip and drop
In so many shapes and so many forms..

Changes, unnoticed changes
Gradual, not rapid but slow
I never really knew
When and how they seeped
Deep In to my skin
Methinks, I see mirror everyday
Hardly any change
Reflects back in my eyes
But I'm changed
In more ways than I can say
When it happened?

Many times walls in my room
Painted, repainted
Skyscrapers looming around my space
Built from nothing
Mighty tree next door dropped
Heaps of leaves
I've never seen them die out
Always on time
Unheeded, they come and go
When it all happens?
I guess I fail to notice

I wish to become like water
When changes being darted
Along my way
What's in it to notice?
To get it over with
 Swiftly adapt.

You must be shapeless, formless, like water. When you pour water in a cup, it becomes the cup. When you pour water in a bottle, it becomes the bottle. When you pour water in a teapot, it becomes the teapot. Water can drip and it can crash. Become like water my friend.

Personal Concerns

What concerns me is that man, unable to articulate, to express himself adequately, reverts to action. Since the vocabulary of action is limited, as it were, to his body, he is bound to act violently, extending his vocabulary with a weapon where there should have been an adjective?
 ~Joseph Brodsky

You and I are same in so many ways. We are happy but at the same time in a little deplorable state. Have so many wishes yet to be fulfilled and so many concerns of everyday life that eats up almost half of our times. Usually, not always, when I feel low or distracted I write it all down and then tear it away. Purge out all the emotions or feelings on some useless paper, on blog, on Facebook and what not. Yes that does sound little awkward when said out loud but almost everyone I know have his/her own coping mechanisms. Other times I just scare the hell out of people, specially my mum,  and blither out everything right on their faces. This process of writing or speaking out maintains an equipoise and it keeps me from flattening out. But something smutty happens when I do neither..

Something keeps bugging me
personal concerns is what people call
bugs I can't put my finger on
it rattles so sharp and render me insane
I scribble them all down, simmering pain
it never actually die, not instantly
as soon as I finished my scribble
roaring flame caged and hog-tied
stinging still bothers me but it subsides

On some random days
I pick some words out
out of my  mind's own word-hoard
and holler them out loud
words sounded much heavier
when  my voice was added to its core
awful clumsiness that fogged me
didn't melt away, vision little clearer
than it was a while before

When I can't write a single word
with so much ink that I hold
sound that I made was so mumbling
and bedimmed, better if I left it untold
even my torrid eyes crashed
all bottled up inside, I acted out rash
actions so reckless, I confess
slipshodness felt so bad, wished
I'd have done something else instead.

Out of all that vexes me
my inaction and indecision
what concerns me more
I have my own ghosts to fight
ghosts that are seen by none
none but me and that's alright
I have my own armada to rely on
as much as I love to look back
I must move ahead and carry on..

An Age of Confusions

"I like too many things and get all confused and hung-up running from one falling star to another till I drop. This is the night, what it does to you. I had nothing to offer anybody except my own confusion."
~ Jack Kerouac

Here I stand confused feeling like there's two poles inside my head and like a blind man at cross-road I think that somebody will come up to me and help. But, sometimes there's no one to help and blind man has no option but to tap his stick on the ground to assess and tread.

It's so confusing sometimes
unwanted rage, conflicting desires
in this age so prime
what is it that I want ?
what is it that I aspire ?
ohh, these crooked desires..

Ahead, two boulevards for me to take
picking one is what I dread
do not want an imprint of mistake
fear failure and it's lash-like taste
what if ? I doctored one instead
affecting all of what's waiting ahead

Push and pull hurts me most
uncalled for reproach and abuse
beginning of the feeling like I lost
dropping dead on some random spot
what if ? all this is just a ruse
just to complex the confuse

They say listen to your heart
and silence all that ails
sever all that thwarts
but how would I know
which train to derail ?
 or which one's  a favorable sail ?

It's so confusing sometimes
there are no such complications
like confusions of a simple mind.
