War gives you a horrible feeling that -"Winning a war is as disastrous as loosing one".
Results of a war are disastrous.. millions of lives gone and what left is generations of grief and sorrow. We grew up playing video games like "Medal of honors", "Call of duty", "Gears of war" and so many others. We enjoy them a lot but reality is far far away from fun or enjoyment. With war comes COLLATERAL DAMAGE. Poor lives of war-ridden areas will give you clear picture of what kind of damage war brings.
Ernest Hemingway says -- "They
wrote in the old days that it is sweet and fitting to die for one's
country. But in modern war there is nothing sweet nor fitting in your
dying. You will die like a dog for no good reason but Collateral Damage."
Tanks, Snipers,
Armed Helicopters
Demolition Bombs, Rocket Launchers.
Shaking grounds, thumps of
marching platoons.
In reality it is scary
only looks good
in video games n cartoons.
Soldiers with body armors
moving in perfect line.
Chaos every where
an abominable lull
nothing looks benign.
Shattered homes,
pulverized lives,
lost n crushed hopes
malice and malign.
On the name of power shift,
political gains and orders.
They drop, catastrophe
on millions of lives of others.
Instructions conceived, designed
in an AC room.
To wreak havoc,
and spell of dooms.
Large populace of the world
living in refugee camps.
Dreadful lifestyle
voluntarily,
they were forced to attempt.
Babies in the belly, in the hands
fasting daily, a fashion
a forced trend.
No one is responsible
for the causalities
as each party is a sage.
Inculpable residents
enclosed in a
country-sized cage.
In this mayhem
they have no reservation
or a mark like Under-age.
Real masters are hiding
somewhere far away
undercover n backstage.
These poor, worthless
people are nothing but
Collateral Damage.
just
Collateral Damage.

Forceful description of reality. It is better to give your plain audio.
ReplyDeleteTrue, the real creators, the generals are sitting behind closed walls, watching as the soldiers and armies at their disposal wreak havoc or is pushed behind. They might still live, but the path of destruction that a war leaves, be it any kind of war, violent or otherwise, it seldom bears fruit again.
ReplyDeleteNice post.
Cheers,
Blasphemous Aesthete
I am deeply impressed by your pious sensitive
ReplyDeleteheart. In old age,Samraat Ashoka was moved by the disasters of war and changed his heart. He then devoted all of his life for building peace only.
Keep on writing,Jyoti. Let your voice be heard by all and peace may prosper everywhere.
i wonder if we will ever learn a new way...war seems to be the only way we know to handle conflict...and yes the real culprits are never even near the battle fields
ReplyDeleteReal masters are hiding
ReplyDeletesomewhere far away
undercover n backstage.
You are right!
very much impressive poem like your all poetry!
Regards.
tragedy well defined..
ReplyDeleteSo true..its heartrending to see so many lives crushed under the boulder called war. The real culprits never fight and the normal man is never alive after such incidents :(
ReplyDeletesad:(

^ loved this line.
Very touchy ,rhythmic ,loaded with grieve and insult and horror .War are born in the minds of men .crush those craniums .Good post .

....Very effective and touching description...ultimately it is the common men who suffer because of the avarice and lust of power of the rulers and despots.
No one is responsible
ReplyDeletefor the causalities
as each party is a sage.

Nice read Jyoti.
thought provoking lines... We are either at war or under preparation for a war. We are at times in war with ourselves. Can we really do away with it ?
ReplyDeleteawesome!!..u've portrayed d reality very nicely!!
ReplyDeletePure truths and the reality of the modern era beautifully crafted through words...lovely lines.
ReplyDeleteVery true, even knowing all the crap that arises, we still do it, stupid indeed. Yes it is glorified with games and such, as you say big difference. very nice
ReplyDeleteI get it. Sacrificing one's life for the country was/is a great deed but who values their lives now? Call me selfish but I wouldn't send my husband or my kids there because I don't want to loose them for the people/countries that never want peace. There is no end practically. Our people choose one or the other reason to fight.
ReplyDeleteAnyway.. I should stop now. Great writing sweets.. Just amazing. Loved the phrase by Ernest Hemingway.
The most hard hit are always the ones that are first in the line... War is always destructive.. Even if you emerge as the winner.. its only after you have suffered huge losses. War always leaves a wake of destruction wherever it goes...
ReplyDeleteNone wins the war.. both sides are left with faces of disgrace and turmoil.
ReplyDeleteWeakest LINK
A collateral crisis indeed.A saddening reality!
ReplyDeleteTrust the people responsible for such genocides of innocent people become more sensible in days to come!
You made me feel the essence of war. Terrible. Brilliant.
ReplyDeleteThe poem should be: Why do we have wars?
ReplyDeleteVery POWERFUL and PAINFUL. I felt it in my soul. Thank you for sharing your talent and gift.
ReplyDeletePEACE.
Nico
Most wars are driving by 'real master' hidden somewhere - the politicians, kings, dictators. Ordinary people die.
ReplyDeleteYou wrote it so well.
Powerful and committed poem - It describes the raw truth about conflicts that are created by powerful people leaving human beings struggling for a bit of dignity.
ReplyDeleteMost wars are fought by people with money. The worls was once driven by a need to survive. we fought to grow/hunt for food to eat to live and to clothe ourselves. Now most of the world is driven by one thing alone, money. Money = power and power = greed and corruption. The only people who profit from war are the money men/women. The ones who behind the scenes pull the strings of whomever is in government no matter where, unless of course we're talking dictators like Gadhafi and Assid. Who are in control because they have all the money and, pay their armies to keep it for them.
ReplyDeleteUntil this world reaches breaking point and Mother nature unleashes all her anger upon us for all our wrong doings against her and mankind has a huge global catastrophy to get through by pulling together, we are doomed to make ourselves extinct by our own actions.
Your prose is so touching, because of its truth.
Will mankind ever learn, I don't think so, the only ones to be saved will be the enlightened who know that we are spirits here in an earthly body that we use, mistreat and abuse on a whim.
strong words...and so true..in war...there are only losers...
ReplyDeletenice post jyoti ji
ReplyDeleteKeep writing for peace, we need your strong voice.
ReplyDeleteBeautifully written nice read.
ReplyDeleteHmmmm.. The hard truth of today. Sigh. So beautifully woven..
ReplyDeleteworld need peace NOW for forever.
ReplyDeleteWars are evil, cost billions of dollars, and toll on humanity is beyond words but it seems that often that is all this world knows. Country after country in an arms race as they try to outspend each other while neglecting the poor and needy around the globe. Mankind has been at war since the beginning and it will never cease. That said war is sometimes required to take out tyrants involved in genocide of entire poulations or those who invade peaceful neighboring countries. Thought provoking post!! Take care :)
ReplyDeleteWar is bad, no matter what side one is on. and it is always the others on the side who suffer the most .. the soldier or the terrorist comes , shoots and goes .. but usually its common who die and worlds collapse around them ..
ReplyDeleteso true Collataral damage ... wish the people who take us to Wars think of this
Bikram's
u r absolutely right.
ReplyDeleteIt's tragical - unfortunately we all know that but it's difficult for us to help much. Only thing we can do is hopefully to raise more awareness and let more people know about this so that with greater unity, we can stop all this in due cause.
ReplyDeleteYou have depicted the scenario well. Great work!
Whatever you or I say and think and plead for a rational attitude to be adopted we will be brushed aside as not understanding the full situation. As each soldier who falls is named with pride, the hundreds of innocent victims of war are forgotten and are an embarrassment. And we call ourselves human! Great piece of writing Jyoti.
ReplyDeleteVery nice, meaningful and touching poem. You should publish a book as you write excellent.
ReplyDeleteYou are welcome at my new posts-

http://amazing-shot.blogspot.com
it does not look good even in video games i tell you...the master minds of war never fights the war...one who fights never know why they are really fighting...and then the poor innocent life and the collateral damage...with all the global economic crisis going on, i wonder if we are heading towards another!
ReplyDeletegood one.
Cheers!

Meaningful and touching poem.

इसी बहाने बन गया- एक और मील का पत्थर।
War with all its horrors are not fought over honours. It is over matters economics, cornering the oil source mainly!
ReplyDeletealways an interesting read on your blog. hope you consider doing a book from your blog for yourself or others I think you have a future as a writer. (there are several companies that will make a book from your blog google it)
ReplyDeleteDeep!!
ReplyDeleteHope the bosses out there are more sensible and think a million times before starting a war. Maybe only then they will come to a conclusion to not start it at all
Beautiful expressions. Lets try to build a society wherein peace is the sovereign. Perhaps those guys need to be exposed to some sort of conflict management.
ReplyDeletejust got back into town...hope you are having a lovely weekend!
ReplyDeleteThis is such a forceful and emotional poem, Jyoti. It's so horrid to think of the potential collateral damage in any kind of disaster. =( This encourages me to think more of others and care more for others. =)
ReplyDeleteBeautifully worded...very heart touching indeed!!
ReplyDeleteWell defined. It's such a horrible thing..in here we must remember that no one wins but all the humanities are the victims! I remembered i went through a military barracks ,there i read one line which says .." We love peace but welcome war." But we layman got a different conviction from military we always love peace and never favors war..and let us start peace within family!
ReplyDeleteVery touchy and true....excellent write
ReplyDeletevery true... for people it may be jsut a little price to pay for peace..just a collateral damage..but for the people who are affected..who lost their nears and dear ones.. they wouldnt give a damn if the world is destroyed or save because they have already lost their universe...for them their sons, daughters, parents, brothers, sisters, spouses...they were their universe...and in war they somehow lost the...
ReplyDelete*tears*
heart touching....
first time on your blog, you have a mature way or writing. ah well, the terror, the wars part of life now. i know one person who lived in baghdad, had to move out of the country for obvious reasons, he lives in uk after spending some time in australia....not much of a family left and whenever he travels to america he is questioned at the airports......
ReplyDeleteit may sound like this man travels everywhere but deep down he feels the pain and when someone talks of terror at work all he can say is, not every muslim is a terrorist!
i got carried away after reading your poem....apologies for a big comment!
cheers..
Great and a good one.
ReplyDeleteI liked the Collateral Damage - part
A good read...horrors of war leave a sad trail behind
ReplyDeleteThe post is a true state of war field! Excellent poem and good point of thoughts. The ending part was profound jyoti.
ReplyDeleteJyoti,
ReplyDeleteWould those who sit in the AC rooms and plan wars ever understand what it is on ground? They will shed crocodile tears for those who died but as long as their aim is achieved what is the loss of few lives for them? It is you and me the common people who understand that. Very well put across.
Take care
