Expectations

"Expectations" a really heavy word. It varies people to people. I wonder how this trait is deeply embedded in our day to day functionality. It won't be an exaggeration if I say that it exists at atomic level. We do things because we expect things to happen. Love, friendship, work, office.... blah blah list can go endless. Everything/Everyone needs reciprocation, something in return.
Newton says- " To every action there is an equal n opposite reaction."
We all have our own desired versions of this " Equal n opposite reaction" and that is what we call " Expectations".
When the we get a reaction different from our own defined version we say
Ohhh !! Expectation hurt.

Its a tricky thing
twisted and poisoned
like a snake n its sting.

Its a bug
a malfunction of our brain
its a risky ride of a bumpy terrain.

Presence or absence
Makes no sense
Either way
Fate resonates and
its almost same.

By default:
It Exists
you can't deny it
it persists.

Vicious circle
with no end.
You can't abandon it.
May be u try n avoid
or u just simply pretend.

Edith Evans says- I can't imagine going on when there are no more expectations.
What is easy??
Living with it or without it ?

  2. Expectations are positive and negative,or may be right and wrong. As our knowledge and experience grow, there may be a change in expectations as well.Negative or wrong expectation is like a devil(You may call it 'Taadka' who was killed by Ram ji to protect the yagya of Vishvamitr ji).Because in performing yagayas(the good deeds which spread happiness all around) wrong expectation is one of the biggest hurdles. One can get it killed with the grace of God(associating with sat-chit-aanand).You may also see my post 'Ram Jnm aadhyatmik Chintan-2"

Your presentation is superb Jyoti j...i.

  13. We expect those things which we don't have. And if u have some expectations for a long time, you are mentally attached to that feeling so we can say it becomes your feeling, and that feeling makes us unhappy if expectations are not fulfilled.

  17. Expectation make our life a little interesting any make us venture into otherwise un-charted territories. If there are no expectations we wouldn't simply do anything. Most of the times only when we expect something, we generally do something...lovely lines!

  18. Jyoti,

Expectations are inborn part of each one of us. These work in positive as well as negative way. These motivate us to make efforts to achieve what we wish but at the same time if these are not met from our close ones we feel depressed or dejected. What I have learnt in my life is that do your best as per your conscience and be happy with whatever the results are. Be good to others without expecting anything in return and if you do get something in return look at it as bonus.

    Take care

  25. ...i hate expectations especially when it didn't come to happen... i believe, people should start living their lives away or free from any expectations they had in mind and they'll realize everything will just come like a bonus.. haha... sadly, it's too hard to do that...;P

    Great piece!

  26. Expectation has its negative aspect led to disappointment. It’s impossible to live without expectation and what we expect is depend on our need and demand and there’s an expectation always rose for something. It’s better to avoid expectation sometime to get rid of disappointed and be aware about thing that we deserve to expect. Nice post Jyoti !

  27. Compromised expectations. How about that?
I lived with expectations my entire life and not being able to live up to any of them was demoralising. It's good to have expectations but maybe not being able to meet up to them should not diminish our own self worth. How to balance that? I am still learning, taking this lifetime to figure out. Good work there!
