No Song Of Certainty

I'm Stubborn, When I Know I'm Right
Stubborn is what I'm labeled with when I stand resolute on something I think is right and just. Often I think I know everything there's to know about a certain thing. I make up my mind and am very clear about the way I feel about it. There are no doubts, no arguments entertained. Like those permanent crease that are imprinted in my hands I know there aren't going to be any alterations. My sagacities are well defined and there's little scope for any change.
Only if things were so straightforward. Only if I wasn't a human and didn't have this capacity of being molded by the circumstances and people around. Only if unlearning and casting off was an option and this grey matter inside my head was not growing. Only if I wasn't maturing with each passing year and starting to realize that the colors in visible spectrum of my cerebrum keeps growing and there will never come a time, not now, when I can be completely right and wrong. There will always be perspectives and circumstances to weigh in. There's nothing like certainty. I'm never going to be certain again.

Every time he tried to reconstruct the internal arguments that had led to his decision, they sounded feebler to him.”
J.K. Rowling, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows

Young me, certain, confident
life seemed easy, comfy, cheery
less I knew, knew what I had to do
what wasn't fine, what wasn't right
when I was or wasn't alright
sketches I drew, so many
only pencil I used, shades so uncanny
differences easy, light and dark
easily marked, in and out so stark.

Stubbornness-my way, I recall
no paradoxes, when I flew I didn't fall
never I gave a second thought
there was no point of coming back
I knew I was coursing the right track
again sketches I drew, so many
some colors I used, used so barely
canvas was scrambled, seems what I got
was some misconstrued blueprint of a plot.

I grew, spent more time
seen, litany of complaints and crimes
like everyone else, peccant mortal I am
exposed to the tableau of right and wrong
seen rise and fall of both weak and strong
sketches that I make now, colors so many
polychromic in feel, sensuous so scenery
judgments are blurred now, ever a scope for things
insatiable life now, engulfing whatever it brings.

Let go of certainty. The opposite isn't uncertainty. It's openness, curiosity and a willingness to embrace paradox, rather than choose up sides. The ultimate challenge is to accept ourselves exactly as we are, but never stop trying to learn and grow.

  1. The more we age the more things seem to clarify while at the same time not

  2. Learning is a life long process and many times we face this the dilemma what to do and what not to do! The most beautiful thing in your writing is that you remain very sincere, very candid in your approach -an honest writing I must say!
Man SHOULD NOT remain a stimulus bound creature and should not react instantly to each and every reactions -we learn this tactic while growing while aging -this is very much normal with man!
Always remember-"Fools Rush In Where Angels Fear to Tread" :-)

    1. thanks A :)
learning process goes on forever !!

  3. Sticking to your guns pays in a long run, when people realize your worth. Daily fight for me, with me, for me. Excellent expressions.

    1. Thanks you Sir..
I will definitely take your advice in consideration :)

  4. "The ultimate challenge is to accept ourselves exactly as we are, but never stop trying to learn and grow." Very well said! And yes, when you're right, it's absolutely fair to be stubborn...:)
    Good luck!:)

  5. Things are really not certain around us. We have to face the outcome of uncertainty and be prepared. We all learn with time, yet the wisest of men commit mistakes, sometimes.

Very nice post. Liked the second paragraph of your write-up more :)

    1. To err is human..
not to err.. that's something else :P

thank you.. glad you liked it :)

  6. learning never ends and being ready to accept whatever life brings is indeed a positive approach to life.
    nice post..:)

  7. The older I get, the more I realize that the only things that are certain IS the uncertainty. That's okay.

  8. “You have your way. I have my way. As for the right way, the correct way, and the only way, it does not exist.”

    ― Friedrich Nietzsche

    Blasphemous Aesthete

    1. exactly.. there's no absolute way.
thanks Anshul.. Nietzsche quotes always lift me up :)

  9. We aren't certain always, however intelligent we are, unknown, when things comes out of our concern. Excellent write up jyoti!!

    1. however intelligent we are susceptible to errors
      Thank you Jeevan.. !!

  10. Hello my friend!! I am definitely guilty of being stubborn at times :) I have been told that by several people.

  11. We should be, that's character, standing by what we believe in. And btw, you are the top contender for that award. I would have given it to you. :)

    1. I stand firmly Saru..

      Ha haha.. about that award..
      let's see what happens :P

  12. thoughts strongly put...
no wonder you are stubborn :-)

    keep it up!!

  13. Perhaps some of it has to do with youth. When you are young, you have this angst which is unique and intense. Nothing wrong with it all. And as Anshul has put it beautifully......there is no one correct way.

    1. I am growing. I guess that's a good sign :)
      thank you mam !!

  14. and the knowledge of the lack of certainty does not prepare us for the uncertainty when it actually materializes, which makes one wonder what's the point of worrying about it? ha, and what pat h said too.

  15. i could see a part of me here....
    good one

  16. I have no clue how you create such beautiful words. Lot to learn from you for sure.

  17. the opposite of certainty is openness..i like this..and i think the older we get, the more things we've seen, we re-think life again and again.. it's good to stay open..

  18. Hi there! I am not visiting your blog for the first time. But somehow, I didn't feel like commenting before...but this post.. i am just short of words of appreciation for it ! Really love your blog :)

  19. oh i agree...the opposite isnt is openness...we all go through those phases as well...thinking we know everything to thinking we know something....and hopefully to the wisdom in realizing we know nothing...smiles.....

  20. Being stubborn is good! Put others in a dilemma and they think on how to react. Then it's a fair reaction one gets! Great word craft Jyoti!

  21. awesome....

stay stubborn...its a quality to fight against any kind of pressure!

  22. and if u r not stubborn, people will start ruling you.....

  23. The ultimate challenge is to accept ourselves exactly as we are, but never stop trying to learn and grow... could not agree more, Jyoti:)
