Flip Side..

As saying goes " Every coin has 2 faces" i.e every situation has two sides. But we  have a propensity for neglecting, not looking and understanding the other side. We fail to look beyond the information we gather from our own perception.

 Overwhelmed by our own perception
Acute reception and
Well calculated misconceptions.
We tend to neglect
Flip Side
Open and wide
the other side.

We hardly exert ourselves
To look and  feel
the other side.
Or its apt to say
Forget it...
Why we even try.

We are right
Ever shining, sparkling bright
How can the opponent
ever be correct ?
No way
they can never be right.

That's how we think
That's the way we deal
Other one is Wrong
It's a universal feel.

Somewhere in the sub-conscious
what lies is - Conscience
We shall use that
from Time to Time
Thinking from both sides
than only we should decide
What is wrong ?
What is right ?
Not much
but at least we can try
To give a thought on
Flip Side.

PS: This post in no way related to my previous post Empty Hearts  and it is also not related to the political turmoil going on in the country. This is an independent post about natural human behavior.

  3. What I like about your work is that it is so all-inclusive, no one is left out. The lines of division that we all paint (or are painted for us) are too often neglected as the obstruction to unity that they are. I hope that people who read this can take a look at their refection. I hope that I too can stay aware of my own close-mindedness, and crack open the mental-window, when needed. Not all is black and white in life. The "Flip Side" always has something to share. Very nice, Jioti. Kudos to you.:)

It is relevant and very good poem.

  7. I always enjoy visiting your world, Jyoti. You string together thoughts in that lyrical quality, yet you avoid the triteness that can sometime accompany poetry. I appreciate the message you've conveyed here. I've often said myself that if people would step back from insisting on "winning", and focus more on communicating, people would have a lot less turmoil. Very timely message, sweetie!

    Much love,

  15. Agree with you on everything you said. We often misjudge situations and think stereotypically. It only leads to unpleasant decisions or future regrets. This awareness comes with experience and age. I know analyze things before I open my mouth/react and I am doing pretty well at it :) Great writing Jyo.

  21. Beautiful...there is a simplicity to this thought of " Flip Side"...

Learn to walk in the other persons shoes..then decide...as you say flip..side...perspectives may then change...or not...then you can agree to disagree...

And sometimes...you may be saying the same thing...just in a different way...

Nice rendition of the Human Condition...

  23. Hello Jyoti,

Very well written with a meaningful photo. Most of the time most of us don't look the other side and take decisions based on ego and at the spur of the moment without thinking of the consequences.

    Best wishes,

  32. True, and yet we often fail to recognize the flip side. We turn a blind eye to it thinking it to be either non-existent or totally wrong, but sometimes, rather half of the times, it is the right one.

    Nice read.

  41. Good observation! This one is the very idea which perhaps has given rise the concepts of relativity in science and "Maya" (Illusion ) of Indian spirituality. It all depends the eyes and angle of viewer-nothing is an absolute truth! You see the things from your own perspective only paving the way for a flip side. The 'difference of the scene' in question is in fact the difference of the outlook-दृष्टि भेद से दृश्य भेद होता है!..and not the other way round! Exhilarating write-up!

  46. Really interesting ... and true... so many heart breaks... arguments and bitterness could we avoided if we could look at the flip side in the same instant as we are thinking from our view point... If we could only count arrows sent by us while counting our wounds... at the same time... we could have saved ourselves from loosing more than only blood.

  56. actually, everything is relative eg. true/false,right/wrong,dark/bright,ethical/unethical,day/night,shame/fame and so on ,nothing is absolute.every thing is seen in light of some pre decided perspective.
so sometimes one side looks ok,and sometimes flip side gets nod.

  68. What a beautiful and thought provoking poem this is!
The question you took up in this poem is so relevant,we do turn a blind eye to the thoughts and opinions of other people, though it might be subconsciously but still the voice which echoes in this poem summarizes of what we really should do-
    "What is wrong ?
    What is right ?
    Not much
but at least we can try
    To give a thought on
    Flip Side."

    lovely read:)

  69. That is very deep, and true. But sometimes if you look at the other side, u could become too absorbed with the other spectrum and end up losing yourself on the way. This is a very complex matter, it's like if u do your damn if you don't you are still damned. What a conundrum!!

Mere acknowledgment of the existence of flip side can do the majic and we can see bigger picture, better picture or the hidden ! There is nothing like making an informed or evaluated choice , but its not so easy nor possible all the time ! it makes life interesting and confusing !!!
